“One thing all cell-phone bills have in common is a lengthy, confusing list of government taxes, surcharges and fees imposed at the local, state and federal level. That’s according to TaxAnalysts, a group that on Monday released a survey of the state-by-state burdens imposed on wireless communications. Economist Scott Mackey, who works with all the major mobile-phone providers, concluded that these taxes and fees are increasing and already exceed the levies piled on most other services. For instance, residents in Pico Rivera, Calif., pay the nation’s highest sales-tax rate of 10.75 percent on purchases.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 17, 2011

groSolar Expands Solar Distribution and Commercial Business
Sells Residential Division to SolarCity

White River Junction, Vt. – groSolar today announced the expansion of its solar distribution and large-scale commercial business, positioning the company for future growth. To facilitate this, groSolar announced today that it has sold its residential division to SolarCity, the nation’s largest residential solar service provider.

“This transaction allows us to concentrate fully on our distribution and commercial businesses, which are the fastest growing solar markets,” said Jeff Wolfe, CEO, groSolar. “It allows us to target, expand and move our distribution and commercial solar businesses to the next level. It’s a very exciting time for the company and our customers.”

groSolar’s distribution channel has seen tremendous growth. A strengthened focus on inventory, quality technology from manufacturers, and market development will allow groSolar to continue as a leading nationwide, full-service solar distributor. groSolar has added sales and customer service staff to its distribution team and will continue to enhance its services.

groSolar’s commercial division has received contracts for multiple large-scale commercial projects in 2011. In the coming weeks, groSolar will commission its largest commercial installation to date, at Clean Harbors landfill in New Jersey. The 1.5 megawatt installation, which will sit on top of a capped landfill, will power equipment used to decontaminate groundwater and offset 90% of the facility’s annual electric bill. The commercial team will hire more personnel to support the new growth.
SolarCity will take over all support and maintenance services to groSolar’s existing and contracted residential customers immediately.

“We are extremely proud of the industry leadership demonstrated by groSolar over the past decade of experience. We look forward to an increased focus on our existing distribution and commercial channels, while we are also pleased that most of our skilled residential division personnel will continue this important work, now for SolarCity,” said Wolfe. “We share the mission of affordable solar for all and we’re certain that our residential channel could not be in better hands. Furthermore, our distribution and commercial divisions will be stronger than ever.”

Chelsea Green Publishing announced today that author Michael C. Ruppert will give a series of talks in Vermont about the peak oil crisis and what we must do to confront it.

For Immediate Release – April 21, 2010

Vermonters Confront Collapse with Michael Ruppert
Author & Peak Oil Activist to lecture across Vermont May 13-16

White River Junction, Vt. - Chelsea Green Publishing announced today that author Michael C. Ruppert will give a series of talks in Vermont about the peak oil crisis and what we must do to confront it.

The Los Angeles-based Ruppert, author of Confronting Collapse and the subject of the Chris Smith/Bluemark Films 2009 documentary Collapse, will discuss and sign copies of his book in Burlington, Montpelier, Brattleboro and Woodstock May 13-16.

Ruppert is a former LAPD narcotics officer turned investigative journalist who details the intricate connections between money and energy, including the ways in which oil shortages and price spikes triggered the economic crash that began in September 2008. Fossil fuel, and oil in particular, is the single resource on which our whole industrial civilization is built, and inexpensive, easy-to-access supplies are now in a state of accelerating and irreversible decline. In Confronting Collapse, Ruppert predicts that as much as two-thirds of the human race may perish in the next five to 10 years as global oil sources dry up, food disappears and lights go out around the world.

Ruppert’s Vermont speaking tour will focus on the tangible steps we must take to confront the grave reality we face globally. In Confronting Collapse, Ruppert outlines 25 steps the nation and all states should implement immediately, including the creation of a second strategic petroleum reserve for the use of state and local governments, and national Feed-in Tariff legislation to support renewable energy sources.

In the film documentary Collapse, filmmaker Chris Smith set out to make a film about peak oil and ended by filming Ruppert, chain-smoking in an abandoned meat-packing warehouse in downtown Los Angeles. Called “shockingly persuasive” and “unexpectedly moving” by the New York Times, the film has received rave reviews from the LA Times, Variety, Chicago Sun-Times, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, The Onion, and many others. Says Robert Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times, “Above all else see Collapse. Above all else.”

Ruppert is an internationally sought-after speaker on peak oil who lectures across the nation. His statewide tour is sponsored by Chelsea Green Publishing, Vermont Commons, The Candidates for Vermont Independence, and Free Vermont Radio, as well as 21 local sponsors.

Leilani Münter is one driver who is using the platform of the raceway to educate fans about climate change, and the steps they can take in the race to save the planet.

Leilani Münter’s ‘Eco Dream-Team’ Announces NASCAR Green Challenge
Driver’s Daytona car sponsors challenge NASCAR fans to embrace energy independence

Daytona Beach, Fl. – When Leilani Münter gets behind the wheel, people watch. But if she has her way at Daytona’s ARCA Series race on February 6th, they’ll also listen. This is one driver who is using the platform of the raceway to educate fans about climate change, and the steps they can take in the race to save the planet.

Today, Münter ‘s ‘Eco Dream-Team’ of Daytona sponsors announced a list of initiatives they hope her fans will adopt to save on energy costs, reduce carbon emissions and move America toward a more sustainable future.

“If each of the more than 2.2 million fans expected to watch this ARCA race would take just one of the eight steps we recommend, they could collectively save more than $250 million dollars each year, and help avoid more than four million tons of carbon emissions over the next 10 years,” said Charlie Szoradi, CEO and founder of GREENandSAVE. “That’s like taking 67,000 cars off the road each year.”

The eight actions that Münter’s sponsorship team encourages fans to take are:

1)    Correctly adjusting tire air pressures to improve efficiency;
2)    Correctly setting home thermostats to save energy;
3)    Switching to high-performance shower heads to conserve water & energy;
4)    Installing a 5kW home photovoltaic solar system and saving 66 percent in electric costs;
5)    Getting a Home Efficiency Report and saving $200 annually;
6)    Helping employers switch to LED lights saving 80 percent on electricity;
7)    Helping employers adopt a Carbon Offset Program for their offices;
8) Getting trained as a Home Efficiency Consultant to help others learn how to save money and the planet.

Pennsylvania-based GREENandSAVE, a national leader in green living and energy education, spearedheaded Münter’s Eco Dream-Team by securing supporting sponsorship from five other eco-friendly companies. The associate sponsors are NativeEnergy, groSolar, LED Saving Solutions, Home Efficiency Report, and Eco Academy.

Münter, rated among the top 10 female sports car drivers in the world by Sports Illustrated, will set out on the Daytona International Speedway in the first-ever fully eco-sponsored race car. She has the cachet to garner sponsorship from top businesses in the US, but she is using her celebrity to support sustainable living initiatives and the collective mission of renewable energy companies.

“We took the lead to build Leilani’s Eco Dream-Team of sponsors, to support her in bringing an urgent message to the 75 million race car fans in America: if you want to save money, start by saving the planet,” Szoradi said. “Leilani is passionate in educating people about how small lifestyle changes can have an enormous environmental impact. By making their homes perform more efficiently, people can save money on utility bills, and also confront climate change at the same time.”

While racing culture and stock car sponsorship is not commonly associated with environmental initiatives, Münter’s Eco Dream-Team sponsors are optimistic that her presence at Daytona will spark a dialogue for energy independence that will go far beyond the February 6th race.

“Leilani is an uncommon messenger for the planet, and we are very excited to join with her and her Eco Dream-Team”, said Tom Boucher, Founder and CEO, NativeEnergy, Inc. “We built NativeEnergy in part by partnering with individuals and organizations who speak with authentic, passionate voices and who share their vision for a better, healthier world. Leilani is leading the way in educating the vibrant and growing community of racing fans. We’re pleased to support her mission.”

By sponsoring her at Daytona, Münter’s Eco Dream-Team hopes to encourage fans to embrace renewable technologies like solar power.

“With strong federal and state incentive programs and drastically reduced manufacturing costs, solar power actually saves people money, and that’s a critical message that people need to hear in this economy,” said Jeff Wolfe, founder of groSolar, a national solar installation and distribution company. “She’s also helping people to recognize that reducing our carbon footprint is one of the most patriotic things we can do as Americans. groSolar is proud to sponsor her efforts to make renewable energy a part of our national identity.”

Münter will drive a # 59 GREENandSAVE Dodge fielded by Mark Gibson Racing. Danica Patrick, noted Indy driver, will also be making her NASCAR debut in the race, making it one of the most anticipated races of the year.

City Market, Burlington’s only community-owned grocery store, announced today plans to install a solar power system...

groSolar to Install Solar System at Burlington’s City Market
Free public solar education seminars to be offered

Burlington, Vt. – For many people, “going green” begins with buying locally-grown and organic foods. City Market, Burlington’s only community-owned grocery store, announced today plans to install a solar power system on its roof in downtown Burlington, with the help of VT-based installer groSolar to further its commitment to energy efficiency and green building practices

The 31 kilowatt system, from 136 solar panels, will cover a small percentage of the 16,000 square-foot building’s overall power load, but City Market was attracted to the project as much for financial reasons as for its commitment to sustainable business practices. Installation is planned for February.

“Once we looked at the numbers and realized we’ll recoup our up-front costs in less than five years, we knew this investment would bring a strong financial return for our members,” said Clem Nilan, General Manager of City Market. “But this is a business decision that also has tangible social and environmental benefits. One of the central tenets of our mission is to make a difference in the lives of consumers. By reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the local green economy with groSolar, we know we’re doing something worthwhile for the community as well.”

White River Junction-based groSolar, now the largest 100 percent U.S.-owned solar distribution company in the nation, will also be offering free monthly “Solar Made Simple” seminars at City Market on February 23, March 23 and April 22, to help educate local residents and business owners about the new economics of solar power. Seminar schedules will be promoted to co-op members and shoppers in the store and through City Market’s print and email newsletters.

“We’re excited that a high-profile shopping destination like City Market has made this commitment to a clean-energy future,” said groSolar CEO Jeff Wolfe. “The combination of drastically reduced prices and strong government incentives made this project a smart move for City Market. We’re optimistic because we see many more homeowners and businesses taking advantage of the opportunity solar power offers for long-term energy security, financial savings and protection of our most precious resource: our planet.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Spring 2010 when the system is fully functional.
